title: Extending Lambek Grammars:
A Logical account of Minimalism
abstract:
The purpose of the talk is to propose a reconstruction
of minimalist principles, based on a very simple
system of intuitionistic logic. In this sense,
minimalist grammars (as they were developed by
E. Stabler) can be compared with categorial grammars
and we can propose to limit ourselves to a subsystem
of the Lambek calculus (slightly modified in order to
account for moves), which because it is equivalent
with those minimalist grammars, is showed to be time
polynomial and mildly context-sensitive. Another
advantage of this approach is to reconcile the
chomskyan conception of Logical Forms with the
montagovian one.
The Dublin Computational Linguistics Research Seminar series is run
jointly by DCU (Dublin City University), TCD (Trinity College Dublin)
and UCD (University College Dublin).
The 2001/2002 seminar series is hosted by Trinity College with the
support of the Department of Computer Science, the Centre for Language
and Communication Studies, the Department of Germanic Studies, the
School of Irish, the Department of French and the Centre for Computing
and Language Studies.
