Title:

Use of Language Technologies in Terminology Management

Speaker:

Alfredo Maldonado Guerra
Linguistic Engineer | Language Excellence
Microsoft

Abstract:

The Language Excellence team in Microsoft is a team of
terminologists, project managers and linguistic engineers who
manage Microsoft's corporate terminology. The main consumers of
Microsoft's corporate terminology are the Localisation
(Translation) and the Content Publishing disciplines.

Terminology management in a corporate and fast-paced environment
requires the use of technology in order to reduce the amount of
manual work, reduce costs and maximise concept/term coverage on a
tight schedule.

In this talk I will present our Terminology Consistency Checking
tools, our work on Concept Similarity Calculation and "Term
Swapper", a technique for supplying a Terminology Dictionary to
Statistical Machine Translation Systems.
