Title:
Treebank-Based Acquisition of Wide-Coverage Deep Grammatical Resources
for Parsing and Generation
Speaker:
Professor Josef van Genabith
Centre for Next Generation Localisation
National Centre for Language Technology
Dublin City University
Abstract:
Deep computational grammars, such as LFG, HPSG, CCG and TAG, have
traditionally been hand-crafted. This is time-consuming, expensive and
difficult to scale to unrestricted text and many languages. Because of
this and the increased availability of treebank (parse-annotated data)
resources, a new deep grammar development approach has been emerging:
treebank-based acquisition of deep grammatical resources. In this talk
I will give an overview of the GramLab activities at the National
Centre for Language Technology (NCLT) at DCU on automatically
acquiring LFG (Lexical-Functional Grammar) resources for
wide-coverage, robust parsing and generation.
