2 x Post-doctoral Research Fellow posts: The Development of a
Psychology-Plausible Computational model for Spatial Language Use and
Comprehension.

Two post-doctoral fellows are required for a period of two years in the
first instance to work on a collaborative project with Dr Kenny Coventry
(Centre for Thinking and Language, Department of Psychology) and Dr
Angelo Cangelosi (Centre for Neural and Adaptive Systems, School of
Computing) at the University of Plymouth.

The objective of the research is to develop a computational model for
spatial language using neural networks based on experimental data with
human participants. One of the positions will primarily involve the
design and collection of experimental data from human participants, and
the other post will primarily involve connectionist computational
modelling. However, candidates possessing both computational and
experimental skills are particularly encouraged to apply.

For the first position (Reference 3917/HSCI, based in the Centre for
Thinking and Language, Department of Psychology), the applicant must
have a PhD in one of the Cognitive Sciences
(Psychology/Linguistics/Computer Science), with expertise in
experimental methodologies and analyses.

For the second position (Reference 3918/HSCI, based in the School of
Computing), the applicant must have a PhD in one of the Cognitive
Sciences (Computer Science/Psychology/Linguistics), with expertise in
cognitive and neural network modelling and programming skills.

The appointees will be working collaboratively as part of a larger
interdisciplinary research team (see
http://psy.plym.ac.uk/research/slg/slg.html and
http://www.tech.plymouth.ac.uk/soc/staff/angelo).

Both posts will be on the Research Fellow scale (£18769 per annum).
Anyone wishing to discuss the posts should contact Dr Kenny Coventry
(kcoventry@plymouth.ac.uk) or Dr Angelo Cangelosi
(acangelosi@plymouth.ac.uk).

Application details can be obtained from
The Personnel Department (personnel@plymouth.ac.uk, 6 Portland Villas,
Drake Circus, Plymouth, PL4 8AA), or from Drs. Coventry and Cangelosi.
The closing date for applications is 2nd November.
