People want access to information and services from anywhere at any time.
The explosive growth of the Internet and the tendency to network everything
from watches to refrigerators makes it technically feasible to fulfil most
requests - once
they are understood via some form of man-machine interaction.
Focusing mainly (but not exclusively) on spoken dialogue, the Interaction
group at Canon Research Centre Europe works on making these interactions as
intuitive, simple and powerful as possible.

Applications from experienced researchers and exceptional recent graduates
are invited for the following positions in the Interaction group:

[SENIOR] RESEARCHERS: to invent innovative techniques for spoken dialogue
systems.

Applicants should have:

* A university degree and ideally several years of research experience in
dialogue systems, speech or natural language processing.
* Initiative, flexibility and the ability to pick up new skills rapidly.
* A strong desire to apply Research results for developing world-class
products.
* Very good self-management as well as team working skills.
* Programming skills.

Experience with practical spoken dialogue systems would be a distinct
advantage.
A relevant higher degree or expertise in any of the following would also be
beneficial:

* Statistical methods in NLP.
* Dialogue modelling and dialogue strategies.
* VoiceXML.
* Speech recognition technology.
* Multi-modal interfaces.
* User interface design.
* C/C++, JAVA, COM

We believe that top-quality research results can best be achieved by
agreeing on shared goals and supporting people to achieve their ambitions.
Consequently, we offer a very informal, stimulating and flexible working

We also offer:
