A number of graduate research assistantships are available to students
admitted to the Department of Cognitive Science at UCSD. These assistantships
are associated with research efforts in the Distributed Cognition and Human
Computer Interaction Laboratory. The deadline for graduate admissions
applications is January 12, 2001.

Professors Hollan, Hutchins, and Kirsh have joined together to create the UCSD
Distributed Cognition and Human Computer Interaction Laboratory. Research in
the lab ranges across cognitive science. We are particularly interested in
understanding interactions among people and technology. Current projects
involve design of multiscale information visualizations and image-based
information navigation, investigations of the impact of interruption in
everyday work settings, exploration of a distributed cognition based theory of
annotation, and understanding the development of pilot expertise in commercial
aviation.

For more information contact Professor Hollan (hollan@cogsci.ucsd.edu) or

admission visit the department's web site http://cogsci.ucsd.edu.
