The UK Speech Research and Technology Group is part the IBM Voice Systems
Group, a world leader in the application of speech and language technologies
(see www-4.ibm.com/software/speech/ for details)

Our responsibilities include development of Speech Technologies for
non-American English and construction of tools to facilitate the
development of systems in all languages.
Current work includes:

Large Vocabulary Recognition
Telephony Acoustic Systems
Natural Language Understanding
Speech Synthesis
Multilingual Recognition

We are now starting a new project in small footprint, noise tolerant
recognition and are looking for engineers/programmers/scientists with a
strong mathematical and programming background to enhance the team.

Candidates should have a first degree in a mathematics-based subject.
Experience in Speech, Language or Signal processing would be a distinct
advantage.
The work will be carried out in C++/Perl/Tcl in a Unix/Windows environment.

Candidates will need to be flexible, self-motivated and innovative.
They will be expected to collaborate with colleagues from within Europe and
around the world and there will be considerable opportunities for travel
and academic
participation.
However, this is not a purely research position and the ability to work
towards deadlines is mandatory.

The group is based in the pleasant surroundings of the Hursley Development
Laboratory (www.hursley.ibm.com) near Winchester, Hampshire.
Although the positions are based in England and fluency in written and
spoken English is necessary, we are prepared to consider applicants whose
native language is not English.
