Research Fellow in HCI at the Open University

Applications are invited for a Research Fellowship in the Department
of Computing in the Computer Human Interaction Research group to work
on a project to design, implement and evaluate a prototype Direct
Combination system. Direct Combination is a recently devised user
interaction framework which systematically extends Direct
Manipulation. The project involves magic lenses, two-handed
interaction, and some work with mobile computers.

The post requires a researcher with proven implementation skills and
a good background in Human Computer Interaction. Substantial skills
and experience with Smalltalk would be a significant advantage,
though Java or other object-oriented languages would be acceptable. A
PhD in Computer Science or a related subject is normally required,
but could be waived for a candidate with the right skills and
experience.

The post is available for a period of one year in the first instance,
starting 1st October 2000. We are working actively to extend this
period by three years. Appointment will be on the Research Staff
scale 1B/1A £16,286 - £24,479, depending on qualifications and
experience.
