Software Engineering/Product and Platform Specialist

Job Description:

As a product and platform specialist at SpeechWorks International Europe,
you will be designing, adapting, implementing and maintaining key
components of the company's award-winning SpeechWorks line of software used
by application developers for creating state-of-the-art, telephony-based,
speech recognition applications. SpeechWorks' software is used by
industry-leading companies such as United Airlines, E*TRADE, Federal
Express, for Hewlett-Packard for a range of applications such as
reservations, stock trading, banking, messaging, and customer service.
SpeechWorks enables companies to augment their e-commerce offerings by
offering 24x7 universal access through the ultimate "thin-client" -- the
telephone -- all through a spoken interface.

This position is a software engineering role with a strong focus on:
· SpeechWorks product development issues for the European marketplace
· adaptation of our SpeechWorks product onto the onto the IVR platforms of
our partners such as InterVoice-Brite, Lucent, MG2, and Aspect for the
European market

Responsibilities:
· Design and implement components of the SpeechWorks software, with a focus
on telephony and network integration issues that differ from the base
design of the North American product.
· Provide feedback on software architecture and functional specification
· Work closely with the SpeechWorks product team in Boston, as well as with
speech applications engineers, speech user interface experts, project
managers, and sales engineers based in London, Paris and Munich
Requirements:
· Detailed knowledge of at least two forms of European ISDN (any of the
French, UK or German standards)
· Experience in Computer Telephony Integration (PABX programming a plus) or
large-scale telephony network operations
· Strong C/C++ fundamentals and experience with C/C++ development
· Visual Basic experience and/or Java or Javascript a plus
· A quick but careful design and programming style
· Fluency in UNIX or NT (ideally both)
· Excellent oral and written communications skills in English
· Be able to work with a minimum amount of direct supervision
· Identify functionality versus schedule tradeoffs under pressure
· Work well with other technical experts in product design, user interface
design and speech application design and development
