Faculty Appointments
National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for
full-time tenure-track faculty positions in the Department of
Philosophy. The Department is part of the Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences and offers modules leading to the degrees of BA and BA Honours.
It also offers MA and Ph.D. by research. Both Western and Asian
Philosophy are represented. Its publication strength lies in Moral
Philosophy and Asian (particularly Chinese) Philosophy. It currently has
two active research components: the Studies in Chinese Philosophy Group
and the Bioethics Study Group.
We are looking for outstanding faculty members who possess a relevant
Ph.D. degree. Candidates should have teaching experience and research
record in one or more of the following areas: ethics (including applied
ethics), philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, social and
political philosophy, continental European philosophy.
All faculty members are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate
courses, supervise graduate students, and conduct rigorous research
programmes that generate external funding and scholarship and
intellectual output typical of that of a world-class university. Besides
appointments on normal 3-year contracts, visiting appointments for one
or two years may also be considered. Successful candidates are expected
to assume duty from June 2001.
