Position open from August 2000
XRCE Grenoble Laboratory is a world leader in natural language and
distributed systems/knowledge management research. It is part of an
expanding research centre with a second lab in Cambridge and strong
links to the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in California.
The MultiLingual Theory and Technology Group has an open position for
a senior researcher in machine learning and statistical modelling for
the purpose of natural language processing. In collaboration with a
small group of other researchers, the candidate will elaborate
state-of-the-art modelling techniques for the syntax and semantics of
natural languages, with a view to applying such techniques to the
solution of problems such as knowledge extraction or the
reconstruction of linguistic input against a noisy background (as for
example in optical character reading).
Research Focus & Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a relevant
discipline e.g. computer science, linguistics, mathematics etc. and a
proven track record in research (publications and/or
patents). Hands-on experience with applying a wide range of NLP
techniques to NLP and/or speech processing is also
desirable. Proficiency in English is required and good communication
skills are a must.
