The Knowledge Lab is an award winning e-commerce and Internet
technologies and research group with a track record and international
reputation for creating new technologies that will shape the next
generation of the Internet and e-commerce.
The lab focuses on innovation in five areas:
* Business intelligence / predictive modelling applications
* Wireless/m-commerce and pervasive computing
* Intelligent systems for e-commerce
* Convergence of content and commerce
* Consumer behaviour
We are looking for bright, numerate people to join the Business
Intelligence / predictive modelling group. People in the lab have
significant freedom to work on any methods that interest them as long as
the work is consistent with our broader goals. We have access to good
computing hardware (Compaq Alphas) which are necessary since we usually
deal with extremely large data sets. We work with a consortium of
companies that include leading international retail banks.
Currently the group is working on a variety of projects including
Bayesian decision theory, automatic relevance determination, the use of
information theory to estimate the relevance of data, survival analysis,
and time-series prediction. Future projects will include processing web
content and use of text as regressors in predictive models,
recommendation engines / collaborative filtering, and stock market
predictions.
The successful candidate should have a first class degree in
Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or another numerate discipline, and an
MSc. or doctorate in one of these disciplines would be desirable, and a
background in computational linguistics, Bayesian statistics and / or
machine learning would be an advantage. They should be fluent in C/C++,
and some subset of Perl, Matlab and S+. They should also be able to
explain their work to people without a numerate background.
If you are interested, please send a copy of your C.V. to Dr. Ramin
Nakisa (ramin.nakisa@ncr.com) or phone on 020 7725 8144.
