EPSRC Support for Ph.D. on Disfluency at the University of Edinburgh

Support is available for a Ph.D. student to work on an EPSRC-funded
research project examining the influence of concurrent visual activity
on the production of spontaneous speech in dialogue. The project is
multidisciplinary.

Applicants should have a good honours degree or equivalent in
phonetics, speech science, speech technology, psychology, linguistics
or cognitive science. Basic numeracy, basic computer literacy, and a
willingness to work in an interdisciplinary setting are required.
Experience with eyetracking, corpus coding, or speech analysis would
be an advantage.

The successful applicant will work closely with other researchers at
the Human Communication Research Centre, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and at
the Multi-media Communications Group of HCRC, Glasgow. The student
will be based in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics
of the University of Edinburgh where s/he will have access to broad
research training (see

resources.

Start date: as soon as possible after 1 November 2001

suitable candidate is found.

The EPSRC baseline rate of maintenance is currently approx. UK #7500 per
annum and the studentship will also pay three years' tuition fees at
home rates. UK and EC students are eligible for these rates.
