An opportunity has arisen within the IT Research Institute for a Research
Fellow to work on the final phase of the three-year EPSRC project, "A
semi-automatic lexicographer's workbench for writing word sense profiles"
(WASPS). The WASPS project is concerned with developing software for
producing 'word sense profiles' as an aid to the lexicographer's task of
producing accurate word sense distinctions in dictionaries, and also to
support word sense disambiguation in NLP systems. A prototype software
system, called the WASPbench has been developed and deployed on a limited
scale, including participation in the recent SENSEVAL exercise.
This post would suit a post-doctoral researcher with experience of
lexicography and/or designing and running experiments with human subjects.
The post-holder will be responsible for designing and undertaking an
evaluation of the methodology and software implementation of the project;
setting up the evaluation; recruiting and supervising subjects; analysing
and reporting results and contributing to the completion of other components
of the project as appropriate.

The post is fixed-term for seven months due to funding being limited to this
period.
