EPSRC RESEARCH STUDENTSHIP IN NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD


An EPRSC PhD Research Studentship is available within the Natural
Language Processing Research Group in the Department of Computer
Science, University of Sheffield. This studentship is open to UK and
to EC students, though the EC students qualify on a fees-only basis.

Qualified students are sought with interests that mesh well with those
of the group. These include, but are not limited to:

* information extraction/adaptive information extraction

* especially from biological/medical texts

* open domain question answering

* multi-document summarisation

* modelling/extraction of temporal information in text

* knowledge representation and knowledge acquisition for NL tasks

* especially acquistion of lexical/lexical semantic
information from text

* algorithms for co-reference resolution and discourse modeling

* partial parsing


This studentship is available immediately and interested persons are
