Prosody/Speech Synthesis - Univ College Dublin and MediaLabEurope

Studentship: Interdisciplinary PhD studentship for student interested
in Prosody/Speech Synthesis

A PhD studentship is available immediately in a joint project between
University College Dublin, and MediaLabEurope, the recently opened
European extension of MIT's well known Media Lab. The focus of the
research will be the acoustic analysis of cues in Infant Directed
Speech which might facilitate segmentation into words by infants. The
position may suit a candidate with a solid primary degree in
experimental or cognitive psychology, linguistics, especially
phonetics and experimental phonology, or computer science. Strong
programming skills (C/C++ or Java) are a prerequisite, as is the
ability to work independently. The successful applicant will work both
with Dr Fred Cummins at U.C.D. and Dr Deb Roy of the MIT Media Lab and
MediaLabEurope. The student will be based at the attractive new
MediaLab premises in the center of Dublin, in the refurbished Guinness's
Hopstore. A very competitive stipend and full fee remission will
accompany the studentship. Starting date is as soon as possible.
Initial inquiries about the position should be emailed to
fred.cummins@ucd.ie with the subject line "MLE/UCD Studentship".
