The Knowledge and Data Engineering Group (KDEG) was established in
1988 within the Department of Computer Science, Trinity College Dublin
and has pioneered research in: distributed information & knowledge
based systems, multimedia and hypermedia systems, and management &
control systems. Research within the group is applied in several
application areas, namely network & distributed system management,
educational technology and health informatics.
KDEG is currently advertising a vacancy for a sponsored PhD
postgraduate studentship. The position involves research into
representation and automation of business processes (workflow) within
the healthcare domain. More specifically the research will investigate
novel representations, management and automation of clinical
guidelines. This research will be conducted as part of a national
research programme in health informatics and will involve working in a
team of both computer scientists and clinical healthcare
professionals. The successful candidate will possess an honours degree
in computer science or a related discipline and strong communications
skills. Experience in knowledge representation techniques, Java
technologies and workflow, although not essential, would be
advantageous.
