Research-Oriented Java Application Designer/Developer
Come join a terrific start-up with technology-savvy senior management.
Find extensive opportunities to contribute your expertise. Consider
ChoiceMaker Technologies, a technologically leading, rapidly growing,
information-quality software vendor. Our team consists of three
Ph.D. computer scientists and two CS professors.
Our software employs 'maximum entropy modeling', a statistical
machine-learning technique that rapidly and accurately matches similar
records (i.e. by saying that "Tom Hanks" is the same as "Thomas J.
Hanks"). Matching eliminates duplicates in one database or merges
corresponding records from multiple databases.
Responsibilities
* Help design, implement, test, tune, deploy, document and maintain
applications that search databases for approximate record matches.
* Contribute to production record matching systems for client projects.
* Help conduct research funded by the National Science Foundation.
* Implement, test and deploy matching algorithms for strings and other
data types in Java.
* Interact regularly with client technical staff.
Required skills
* Thorough and accurate understanding of fundamental algorithms and data
structures.
* Advanced Java expertise, including experience in at least two of the
following: JDBC, Java threads, CORBA, EJB, RMI - IIOP, or JNI.
* Design and implementation of large (above 10K lines of code) systems.
* Understanding of database modeling and programming.
* Willingness to practice (and learn) excellent software engineering
habits.
* Experience producing production code.
* Speak and write English well.
* Able and eager to use new software development tools.
Desirable skills
* Expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, data
mining, and/or computational linguistics.
* Expertise in information retrieval, approximate search, record
matching, record linkage, or information quality problems or software.
* Knowledge of string matching and pattern matching techniques such as
regular expressions, NYSIIS, Soundex, edit distance, suffix trees or
hashing
* Research interest and experience.
* Advanced SQL database expertise, including query design, DDL, tuning,
ODBC and experience with large
(10M to 1B record) databases.
* Ability to estimate project development effort.
