The Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies at the Carl von
Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Germany) invites applications for the
following permanent post:
Professor of English Linguistics
The position is available from 1 October 2002 (salary scale C4 BbesG).
The post description runs "English Language including Theory and History
of the Language".
The responsibilities of this post include: teaching and examining at all
levels in the English Department; establishing and prosecuting research
projects to embrace systematic and historical linguistics; departmental
and Faculty administration.
The successful applicant should have a strong and extensive record in
both research (at least equivalent to the German "Habilitation") and
teaching at university level, including: historical linguistics; a
specialization in grammatical description of English and grammar theory;
historical and systematic language analysis integrated with the theory
of language change and its methodology. Applicants must be fluent in
English and should have a sound working knowledge of German.
As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen have
formalized working agreements, the successful applicant should be
prepared to contribute to this cooperation.
