Two Lectureships in the Centre for Language and Communications (CLAC)

(Three-year posts)

The Centre of Language and Communications in the Faculty of Education
and Language Studies produces and supports a range of highly popular
courses in English language studies at undergraduate, masters and
doctorate level. The Centre also has a long history of contributing to
the Continuing Professional Development of teachers, both within the
UK and internationally.

The Centre has an excellent record of research productivity and
maintains a high national and international profile in the field of
language and communication studies. Current research interests include
classroom communication, computers and communication, children's
language use, language diversity, English as an international language
and academic literacy.

We are looking for two lecturers to contribute to the work of the Centre.

Lecturer in Linguistics (including applied linguistics and/or
sociolinguistics)

This post requires a strong background in linguistics, with an
interest in applied linguistics and/or sociolinguistics. Initial
responsibilities would include contributing to a new course on the
structure of English. You would also be expected to contribute to the
presentation and future production of courses in several aspects of
English language studies, both for students within the OU's general
undergraduate programme and for teachers and other professional
audiences.

Lecturer in Applied Language Studies
(Ref: 16087)

Applicants for this post may come from a range of disciplinary
backgrounds, including psychology, anthropology, education,
linguistics or another area of language study. You would be expected
to contribute to the production and presentation of courses on the
English language, or language and literacy, both for students within
the OU's general undergraduate programme and for teachers and other
professional audiences.

For both posts, you will need an enthusiasm for distance teaching and
a commitment to teaching mature students. You should have good
communication and writing skills and an interest in the use of new
technologies to deliver courses through supported open learning.

We can offer you excellent support for developing and extending your own
teaching and research. The university offers generous study-leave, funding
for conferences, equipment and research assistance.

The posts are available immediately. Appointment will be made on
Academic salary scale £20,267 - £24,193 or £25,203 - £32,215
per annum, according to qualifications and experience.
