The European Patent Office is an international authority whose
task is to examine and grant patents on behalf of its 20 Member
States. Each year the European Patent Office receives some 140.000
patent applications worldwide. Over 4700 people are employed by
the Office and work in the three official languages, English,
French and German.
In Munich and in Berlin (Germany) we are looking for :
ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE GRADUATES
to carry out search and examination of patent applications
respectively in the following fields:
Fields
Munich (Germany)
Chemistry > Polymers, Chemical or Physical Processes, Lubricants, Chemical Engineering, Textile and Paper
Technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cosmetics, Detergents, Layered Products
Electricity / Physics > Electronics (analog and digital circuits, pulse and modulation techniques), electrical engineering
and controlling (microwave technology, radar systems), telecommunications (digital signal processing, mobile
communication systems, transmission and switching systems), computer technology, physics (measuring/ indicating/
recording, optics and LC-displays)
Mechanics > Mechanical engineering in general, electrical control of combustion engines, medical, vehicle and glass
technologies, weapons, machine tools, mining drilling and oil field technology, civil engineering
Berlin (Germany)
Several technical fields, especially
telecommunications
computers (information retrieval)
electrical connectors, electrical machines
semi-conductors
television and facsimile
optics
semi-conductors
vehicles in general, especially brake control systems, electrical circuits for
vehicles, safety systems, gearing and control systems
general mechanics
medical apparatus
Minimum requirements
Candidates for Munich and Berlin should meet the following
requirements
have a good university degree in one of the relevant fields.
Some years' professional experience would be an advantage;
have a good knowledge of two of the official languages
English, French and German, and at least a basic knowledge of
the third language;
want to join an international environment at the forefront of
technology;
enjoy working with PCs on a day-to-day basis;
be nationals of an EPO member state*.
Applications for examiner posts are also invited from
nationals of the following states, which have been invited to
accede to the European Patent Convention (EPC) with effect
from 1 July 2002: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary,
Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia
Conditions
The EPO offers an attractive salary - subject to an internal
tax but not to national income tax - and generous social
benefits, including its own pension scheme.
The official languages are German, English and French.
Preferential treatment will be given to applications from
disabled persons with equal qualifications. The posts are
equally open to suitably qualified male and female
applicants.
