The Computer Science Department of the University of Hamburg
(Germany) is looking for a


research scientist

in a project on the application of soft-computing techniques for
information extraction from natural language texts
(nats-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/~dawai/).


Areas of responsibility:

- research in the area of natural language processing
- development and evaluation of software and lingware components
- assistance with organizational and project-support activities
- participation in lab maintenance

Profile:

- background in symbolic and stochastic approaches to natural
language processing and/or constraint satisfaction approaches
- experience in software development (prefererably C, C++) and/or grammar
development
- good command of German or English
- good honours university degree in computer science or other suitable
fields (e.g. mathematics, computational linguistics or linguistics)
- self motivation, ability to work independently

The position is available immediately, with a duration of two years.
Salary will be according to level IIa of the German public service
BAT payscale (DM 70.000 - DM 80.000 depending on age and family size).

The position is based in the Natural Language Systems Division which
offers a stimulating scientific atmosphere with a number of ongoing
projects in the area of speech and language processing
(nats-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de).
