Canon Research Centre Europe Ltd (CRE) has been working on speech
technology for more than 10 years, resulting in applications within
Canon products and 3rd party licensing deals. More recently, we have
started work in the area of multi-modal user interfaces, focusing on
integrating speech with other modalities, such as GUI, buttons, pen,
haptic etc. This work is motivated by concrete business requirements,
carried out in close collaboration with a Canon research group in
Japan and synchronised with an upcoming International Standard for a
multi-modal mark-up language.
We are currently expanding activities in this area and are inviting
applications from experienced research engineers and exceptional
recent higher degree graduates for the following position in the
Interaction group:
[SENIOR] RESEARCH ENGINEER - Multi-modal Dialogue Systems
Job requirements:
* Initiative, flexibility and ability to pick up new skills rapidly
* A strong desire to apply research to create world-class products
* A top-class university degree
* Excellent OO software skills, ideally using Java (inc. RMI & SOAP)
* Significant experience with multi-modal dialogue or ASR systems
* Self-management as well as team working skills
A relevant higher degree or expertise in any of the following would
also be beneficial:
* Client-server architectures
* XML and XML-based mark-up languages, especially XHTML
* Multi-modal interfaces and multi-modal grammars
* Dialogue system architectures, dialogue modelling / strategies
* Speech recognition technology
* HCI
* User interface design
