The Faculty invites applications for a postdoc in the Department of
Theoretical Philosophy (chairman Prof. Dr. T.A.F. Kuipers). The two
central interests of this department are
1) logical and illogical thinking: patterns of reasoning in science
and in everyday life,
2) human and world views: knowledge and consciousness in the
perspective of modern science.

All research in this department lies within the province of the research
school BCN (Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences, see the site

Part of the research is also subsumed in the
national research school Logica (see the site { HYPERLINK

The research of the postdoc should lie in one or more of the areas of
interest of the Department of Theoretical Philosophy: philosophy of
science, logic, theory of argumentation, theory of knowledge,
philosophy of mind, analytic philosophy or the philosophy of language.
The work of the successful candidate ought to mesh well with one or
other of the above-mentioned interests of the department.
Your profile
- you should either have a Ph.D., or be about to obtain one (your
thesis must have been completed as well as approved by the
referees). The Ph.D. should pertain to philosophy or to some other
discipline with strongly philosophical content.
- you should be motivated to do fundamental philosophical research
- you should possess demonstrable affinity with the department=EDs
area of research and have a thorough knowledge of at least one
these areas.
- you should be capable of working as part of a team.
The University of Groningen offers
a postdoctoral position for two years on the basis of full-time
employment, but also with option of a 4/5 appointment.
