Research Associate Post

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on the
VISTA project, a DTI-LINK funded collaborative project between industry
and universities which aims to explore the design and performance of a
virtual human interface to a digital TV set-top box. The post is
concerned with developing advanced speech and language processing
techniques to enable users of a set-top box to interact with an
electronic programme guide using natural speech.


This is an eighteen-month post funded by the Economic & Social Research
Council and is available immediately. Salary will be on the Research and
Analogous Staff
Scale 1B £17,451 to £19,486 per annum (rising to £17,626 to 19,681 per
annum on 1 March 2002)
or 1A £17,451 to £26,229 per annum (rising to £17,626 to 26,491 per annum
on 1 March 2002),
according to experience.

Candidates should have an honours degree in an engineering, computing or
mathematics discipline, excellent coding skills and research imagination
and curiosity. A knowledge of speech recognition and/or language
processing techniques and experience in working in either of these fields
is preferred, but not essential.
