PhD Opportunities in Language Engineering

The Information Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is one of the
leading centres for research in computational linguistics and language
engineering. The ITRI offers an excellent environment for apprentice
academics to work with internationally renowned researchers in the
field, and to themselves become part of the international reseach
community. We are inviting applications from bright and dynamic
graduates to study for a PhD in the following topics:

document generation; dialogue; lexicons; summarisation;
natural language interfaces; information extraction.

Applicants should have a good honours degree or equivalent in a
relevant subject (e.g., Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or
Linguistics) or be expecting to achieve this, if final year students.

Applications will be considered at any time, but for a start in
October, applications should normally be received by the end of July.
We have one EPSRC studentship available for UK or EU (fees only)
residents. The closing date for applications for this studentship is
31st May 2002.

Further information on the Institute's research programme can be found
on the ITRI home page (http://www.itri.bton.ac.uk), and information
about students and how to apply on our research students page
(http://www.itri.bton.ac.uk/students).
