Summer Employment Opportunity: ESL Item Writing for the TOEIC Test

The Chauncey Group International is seeking ESL professionals to
participate in our Summer Item Writing Institute, creating test items
for the TOEIC test and performing related duties. The TOEIC test
assesses the English language proficiency of non-native speakers who
use English in the global workplace. It was developed in 1979 by the
Educational Testing Service and is now administered by the Chauncey
Group International. From 5 to 8 item writers will be employed
full-time from July 11 through August 9. Work will take place in the
Chauncey Group's offices on the ETS campus on Rosedale Road in
Princeton, NJ. The pay will be $25 per hour.

Successful candidates will have excellent writing skills, an extensive
knowledge of the conventions of English grammar and usage, the ability
to handle confidential and sensitive material, and general familiarity
with computers. A Master's degree (or equivalent) in TESOL or a
related field is required, as is a minimum of 2 years of experience
teaching ESL to adults. Knowledge of a second language and overseas
work experience are highly desirable. Both native and non-native
speakers of English are encouraged to apply; individuals with a
knowledge of non-American varieties of English are particularly
encouraged to apply.

In place of interviews, a workshop will be held on the ETS campus on
the morning of Friday, June 14. At this workshop, the TOEIC
item-writing process will be explained and candidates for the Summer
Item Writing Institute will produce work samples.

Applications for the initial workshop must be received by June 4. To
apply, e-mail (1) a letter highlighting relevant experience and (2) a
resume or CV toKathleen Kellet at: klkellet@chauncey.com. Please
indicate "Summer Item-Writing Institute" on the subject line.
