The Research Group KBS at L3S (Learning Lab Lower Saxony) seeks
applicants for
four Ph.D. and PostDoc Positions
available in the context of three new projects starting in
August/September 2002.
The EU-IST funded project ELENA will design and implement learning
spaces enhanced by Ambient Intelligence (see e.g.
http://www.cordis.lu/ist/istag.htm). Central design principles of the
ELENA infrastructure are dynamic learner profiles and heterogeneous
learning services implemented on top of both peer-to-peer and
server-based information networks (two positions).
The project PADLR, an international research consortium with research
groups from Germany (Hannover, Braunschweig, Karlsruhe), Sweden
(Stockholm, Uppsala) and USA (Stanford University), funded by the
Germany Ministry of Research (BMBF) and the Wallenberg Foundation, is
investigating a variety of issues to implement personalized access to
distributed learning repositories (see
http://www.learninglab.de/english/projects/padlr.html), the newly
opened position will focus on efficiently searching and maintaining
distributed (peer-to-peer) information spaces using both conventional
query languages enhanced to cope with semi-structured data and
information retrieval methods (one position).
ELAN-L3S, funded by the research ministry of Lower Saxony, is one of
the core competency and support groups within the E-Learning Academic
Network Niedersachsen (ELAN) and is responsible for research,
evaluation and support in the area of learning and content management
systems to be employed at L3S and the participating universities in
Lower Saxony (one position).
The prospective student or PostDoc is expected to hold a master's
degree or equivalent degree (e.g. German diploma) in computer science
or a Ph.D., respectively. The salary amounts to German BAT IIa or Ib
(which is roughly 35.000 to 41.000 Euro gross income per year
depending on age and marital status).
