The Istituto Trentino di Cultura (ITC) was created with the goal of
promoting the cultural, economic, and social growth of the Province of
Trento. ITC is composed of several research centers and has currently
a staff of 200 full-time researchers (plus several students, fellows,
consultants, and visiting scholars).
The Istituto per la Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica (IRST) is the
main research center of ITC. Its organization and planning are
directed to pursue both basic and applied research through a
co-ordinated design that integrates objectives of research excellence
and responsiveness to local, national, and international development
needs. IRST's main efforts are concentrated in advanced computer
science (e.g. automated reasoning and decision support systems,
software engineering, natural language, speech recognition, artificial
vision) and microelectronics (e.g. optical and biochemical sensors,
micromechanics). IRST has currently a staff of about 80 full-time
researchers.
IRST has an opening for one position in Data Mining and Machine Learning.
The successful candidate will join the Automated Reasoning Systems
division, lead by Paolo Traverso, an interdisciplinary group who is
active in the area of Agents, Case Based Reasoning and Machine
Learning, Planning, Software Engineering. Currently, 18 full time
researchers are affiliated to the Division. In addition, there are
various PostDoc Fellows, Phd and MSc Students and visitors from
national and international institutions for a total of 42 people.
The successful candidate will work both on state of the art basic
research and in a technology transfer projects aimed at at applying
Data Mining and Machine Learning Techniques to specific application
domain.
A currently active project addresses plant diseases in agriculture.
REQUIRED:
- MS or PhD in: Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or
related field;
- good programming skills;
- good problem solving and communication skills
(both written and verbal).
DESIRED:
- familiarity with Data Mining and/or Machine Learning;
- international experience;
- high quality research experience;
- experience with technology transfer projects, industrial projects.
The positions are for a maximum period of three years, to be renewed
each year, and can be further extended at the end of the three years
depending on the scientific results obtained, on the technology
transfer projects acquired, and on the opportunity judged by the
institute to continue this research. Salary and level of appointment
will be commensurate with the successful applicants' qualifications,
experience and achievements, on the basis of the Research staff salary
scale, ranging between 25.000 and 36.000 euro, plus pension.
