Stipends for Graduate Study

Linguistics at The University of Groningen, Netherlands, will award
two stipends to two PhD students in any of the fields CLCG studies.

The Center for Language and Cognition Groningen (CLCG) is a research
institute of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Groningen. CLCG
is affiliated with the Graduate School for href="http://www.bcn.rug.nl/">Behavioral and Cognitive
Neurosciences
(BCN). Foci within CLCG are Neurolinguistics,
Computational Linguistics and Semantics. There is also research in
Phonetics and Phonology, Syntax, Discourse and Communication, Applied
Linguistics (Second Language Acquisition), and Descriptive and
Historical Linguistics.

Within CLCG there are two four-year stipends available to support PhD
students. Candidates interested in these posts are invited to send
application materials by Oct. 15. See the href="http://www.let.rug.nl/clcg/">CLCG web site, esp. the
sections on "Graduate Study" and "Positions" for details. The stipend
starts at 1477 Euro per month (before taxes) in the first year and
rises to 2.110 Euro/month in the last year. Successful applicants will
recieve a contract for one year extendible for three further years
subject to evaluation after one.

The central task for a graduate student is to carry out a research
project within one of CLCG's fields of research, leading to a doctoral
dissertation. The web site has details. As part of the application,
candidates are asked to submit a three-page project proposal, which
may later be modified in consultation with advisors.

Applicants are chosen on the basis of university records in a relevant
field, project sketch, and recommendations. The web site is
