The Cognitive and Communication Technologies (TCC) division of
ITC-Irst has an opening for a position (two years, renewable) starting
as soon as possible for a software engineer or an experienced
programmer (Java and/or C++) to work on emotion expression with
synthetic faces in the context of an European research project
(PF-Star).
The succesful candidate should have
- a university degree in computer science, software engineering or
similar;
- experience with Java and/or C++;
- working knowledge of UML;
- good knowledge of English;
- ability and willingness to work as part of a highly skilled,
collaborative research team;
Previous experience in computer graphics, speech recognition and
synthesis are considered a plus.
Background:
PF-Star is a 2 year project funded by the European Commission (IST
programme). The main objective is to contribute to establish future
activities in the fields of Multisensorial and Multilingual
communication on firmer basis by providing technological baselines,
comparative evaluations and assesment of prospects in three crucial
areas: speech-to-speech translation, core speech technology for
children, and the detection and expressions of emotional states. The
project's partners are: ITC-irst (It, main contractor); RWTH, Computer
Science Department, University of Aachen (Ger); Institute for Pattern
Recognition, University of Erlangen - Nurnberg (Ger); Interactive
Systems Laboratories, University of Karlsruhe (Ger); Kungl Tekniska
Hogskolan - KTH (Sw); University of Bermingham (UK); Istituto di
Scienze e Tecnologie della Cognizione, Sezione di Fonetica e
Dialettologia (It).
