The CSULB Linguistics Department invites applications for a
tenure-track position in the Acquisition and Development of Language
and Literacy. The appointment, at Assistant or Associate level, is
effective August 25, 2003.
Candidates should have earned a doctorate by time of appointment in a
specialization related to one or more of the following: language
development, second language acquisition, linguistic dimensions of
K-12 literacy, as well as a record in teaching, research service, and
publication commensurate with professional level. Teaching duties
include an undergraduate course in first and second language
acquisition and a graduate course in literacy.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate an active research program
and be able to direct student research. Preferred qualifications
include research agenda in K-12 language development, language
acquisition, and/or literacy, and an ability to teach in one or more
of the following areas: second language writing, bilingual literacy
development, applied linguistics, adult literacy. Also preferred is
the ability to build relations with local schools and/or
community-based literacy agencies, and to engage students in
collaboration and research with them.
Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae,
three letters of recommendation, official transcripts from institution
awarding doctorate, teaching portfolio including teaching statement,
course syllabi, and teaching evaluation summaries. Review of
applications begins December 1, 2002.
