Google Computer Science Summer Internship Program

Google, the world leader in information retrieval, is pleased to
announce our Computer Science Internship Program for the summer of
2003. We are accepting applications, seeking extraordinarily qualified
individuals to intern on our highly talented Research & Development
Engineering teams.

What We Offer

Google has an exciting and innovative summer internship program for
students pursuing degrees in Computer Science or a closely related
area. If you are interested in working with some of the best software
engineers and researchers in the Silicon Valley on some of the hottest

Google offers opportunities to solve fascinating problems in many
different areas of computer science including:

1.Building large-scale distributed file systems and other
infrastructures that make it possible to reliably and efficiently
manage and process hundreds of terabytes of information.

2.Designing and improving software that can crawl and index
billions of web pages and other documents.

3.Applying machine-learning techniques to learn relationships and
associations within the data that we have (eg our spelling
correction system).

4.Using Google's information to keep track of the important new
developments, and automatically extracting summaries for people
who need this information (eg the automatically generated news
summary on news.google.com).

What We Look For

Google is also looking for a summer intern with a strong
background in Human Computer Interaction. The ideal candidate will
be a critical thinker with a strong visual design sense, a strong
technical background, and an eye for making things work better. As
an intern in Google's UI Team, you'll have the chance to make an
impact on the user experience of products that will be seen and
used by millions of users all over the world.

Requirements:

Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Human Computer Interaction,
Computer Science, or related field. Strong academic
background in HCI required.

Expert HTML skills.
Excellent knowledge of JavaScript and/or DHTML a big plus.
Strong analytical thinker with excellent communication skills.

Specifics on the Google Summer Internship Program

Internships are full-time positions for the duration of the
summer. Start and end dates are flexible with regard to academic
schedules, but interns are expected to commit to at least 3 months of
full-time work. In addition, you will be matched with a Google
Engineer or Researcher who will serve as your host and technical
leader.
