Research Associate Position
Spoken Dialogue Systems for Computer Assisted Language Learning
Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the
Machine Intelligence Laboratory to work in the area of Spoken Dialogue
Systems for Computer Assisted Language Learning. This post will be
associated with a new Cambridge-MIT Institute Project on pervasive
computing. The work will involve developing spoken dialogue systems
in domains designed to assist language learners in developing better
conversational skills. For this project, the focus will be on native
English speakers learning Chinese and applications from native
Mandarin Chinese speakers will be particularly welcome.
The work will involve implementing systems based on MIT's Galaxy
architecture and developing novel algorithms for monitoring and
assessing performance.
The successful candidate will have a good first degree in Engineering,
Computer Science or related field and preferably a PhD in spoken
dialogue systems, speech recognition or a related area. Good
programming skills are essential. Salary will be upto 27339 UKL pa and the
contract will have a tenure of three years in the first instance. For
