As part of the comprehensive revision of the Oxford English Dictionary
now in progress, an additional staff member is required to join a
small team of specialist etymology editors.

The successful applicant will be involved in revising the etymological
components of the dictionary text, by researching word histories and
revising or supplementing the existing text in the light of this
research.

Applicants should have at least one of the following: a good knowledge
of the internal history of English; a good knowledge of one or more
Germanic or Romance languages and their histories. A First or Upper
Second class degree in a relevant subject is required, and research
experience in a relevant area would be highly advantageous.

The successful applicant will work in the challenging environment of
online publication, which requires the regular issue of scholarly text
from the Dictionary's ongoing research programme.

The post will be based in Oxford. Shortlisted candidates are likely
to be asked to complete a lexicographical aptitude test.

The salary offered will be in the range of 17,500 - 22,000 GBP
