Sponsorship of a person to undertake a Masters Degree with a focus on Dementia
Dementia Services Information and Development Centre (DSIDC) is a national
resource Centre for professionals, formal caregivers, health
administrators, service planners, researchers and post-graduate students
working in the area of dementia. It has been in existence now for some 3
years. The mission at DSIDC is the promotion of excellence in all aspects
of dementia care. Its remit includes (i) education and training, (ii)
research and development and (iii) consultancy and information services.
The Centre in association with Trinity College Dublin intends to sponsor a
suitably qualified person to undertake training leading to a Masters
degree. The scheme forms part of a commitment to increase professional
awareness about dementia in Ireland, improve standards of care and support
the ability of researchers to conduct high quality scientific research
which will inform best practice allowing health care administrators and
other professionals act upon results. The sponsorship is intended to enable
an individual already accepted onto a Masters programme to undertake
research/training.
The sponsorship is open to professionals from a wide range of backgrounds,
including psychology, social work, social policy, sociology, occupational
therapy, nursing, medicine, psychiatry, clinical nutrition, pharmacy,
speech and language therapy and physiotherapy. The successful candidate
must have a proven practice record in working with people with dementia.
Ideally the candidate will remain on full salary within own work
environment and the sponsorship will be used to cover College fees and to
release the individual for a half/or full day a week to facilitate his/her
research programme. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate
an ability to design and develop a creative piece of research, the findings
from which it is hoped will ultimately improve and expand services for
people with dementia in Ireland and contribute to a better quality of life.
A research proposal containing a timeframe for the project and detailing
information about the following areas is required; study's aims and
objectives, literature review, research plan and methods, sample, and
proposed data analysis. For more information please contact Suzanne
Cahill, on director@stjames.ie
Applicants should submit a full research proposal to Dementia Services
Centre, Hospital 4, St James's Hospital, James's Street Dublin 8 by
November 30th.
Late applications will not be accepted.
