Applications are invited for two fixed term Research Associate (RAIA)
posts in syntactic theory, for appointment from 1st February 2004 to
31 December 2005. One of the posts is in the Department of Language
and Linguistics, University of Essex, and the other is in the
Department of Computer Science, King's College London. Closing date
for applications is 8th January 2004, with interviews for the post to
be held as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful applicants will participate in a newly funded
collaborative AHRB-funded project on "Noun Phrase Agreement and
Coordination" directed by Dr. Louisa Sadler (at the University of
Essex) and Dr. Mary Dalrymple (at King's College, London). The
project will conduct a number of empirical studies of the interaction
of coordination and agreement (inside and outside the NP), and on the
basis of these empirical studies will develop a formal theory of
agreement within the framework of Lexical Functional Grammar.
Candidates should have:
- a good honours degree in linguistics or a related discipline
- a postgraduate research degree or experience working as a researcher
- familiarity with constraint-based linguistic formalisms (especially LFG
or HPSG)
- an ability to work independently and collaboratively
