MACHINE LEARNING/COMPUTER SCIENCE EXPERT
The Institute of Phonetics at Saarland University (Saarbruecken, Germany)
invites applications for a Ph.D. studentship or half-time post-doc
position (depending on qualifications) for a Machine Learning/Computer
Science Expert to work in the area of Speaker Verification. The position
is for two years and can start immediately.
The candidate will work in a small project team concerned with spoken
password recognition as part of a PDA-based biometric recogniser. More

The ideal candidate will have experience in speaker and/or speech
recognition, particularly at the level of preprocessing and acoustic
modelling techniques, and should be interested in phonetic aspects of
speech. Preference will be given to a candidate who has previous
experience with (software packages for) neural networks, HMM and SVM.
Programming skills (C++, Java) and knowledge of Linux are also required.
Familiarity with wavelets is an asset, but not necessary.
Ph.D. students can apply for association with the European Post-Graduate
College in ''Language Technology and Cognitive Systems'', which provides a
dynamic interdisciplinary environment in cooperation between Saarbruecken
and Edinburgh (http://www.coli.uni-sb.de/egk/).
The monthly salary will be approx. 2200 Euros (subject to approx. 35%
deduction for tax and health- and social-insurance); the exact salary
depends on age and marital status (precise information can be provided
upon inquiry).
