PhD position in Computational Linguistics
at the University of Stockholm

The position is open immediately and should be filled no later than in
the summer of 2003.

The PhD student is expected to spend the majority of his/her time on
his/her own PhD studies, but can eventually have other teaching,
research or administrative duties. This work may not exceed 20% of the
students time. Only those who have completed the necessary prior
degree and thus satisfied the requirements for writing and defending a
Ph.D. dissertation can be hired. The prior degree should be in
Computational Linguistics or a closely related field.

The Computational Linguistics group at Stockholm will focus on
data-driven (i.e. corpus-based) approaches to NLP systems. Therefore,
experience (or at least interest) in lexical knowledge acquisition
(terminology extraction, thesaurus and ontology building) is highly
desirable. The goal is building systems for multilingual information
extraction.

The first period of employment is for one year. The employment
contract can then be renewed for at most two years at a
time. Altogether a PhD student may have a position for no longer than
5 years.

Applications for the PhD position should include the following:
* a CV with information about earlier studies, jobs and publications
* a copy of written works that are referred to in the application

Linguistics, Christina Hellman, tel +46-8-162335

The union representative is Bo Ekengren (SACO), Lars Åke Säll (ST-ATF),

should be sent to: Stockholm University, Registrator/PA, 106 91
Stockholm, SWEDEN. Please mark the application clearly with the
