Two Lecturer Appointments
Department of Philosophy
School of Humanities
The School of Humanities brings together related disciplines in a
common endeavour to study, understand and disseminate knowledge of the
historical, literary and artistic manifestations of human
existence. It includes the Departments of American Studies, Art
History, English, History, Linguistics and English Language, Music and
Philosophy, and the Sussex Language Institute, as well as leading
Research Centres like the Centre for Modernist Studies. New
initiatives include development in the area of film studies.

The department is keen to attract philosophers engaged in active and
productive research who are also enthusiastic teachers of both
undergraduate and graduate level courses. The positions are open to
specialists in any area of the subject, although the successful
candidates might be expected to work in one of the areas in which the
department has had strong research and teaching interests: Aesthetics,
Analytical Philosophy, Kantian and post-Kantian European Philosophy,
Philosophy of Cognitive Science, Social and Political Philosophy. Head
