JOB OPPORTUNITY AT SPEX

SPEX stands for Speech Processing EXpertise centre. Since 1989 SPEX has
been playing a major role in making speech databases available to Dutch
universities and commercial organisations. SPEX is also a key player in a
number of European projects with respect to the validation of speech
databases. Furthermore, SPEX is closely involved in research in the area
of speech technology that is being carried out at Dutch universities and
especially at the Department of Language and Speech of the University of
Nijmegen. Our job locations is at this department.

Our tasks involve recording, annotating, checking and correcting speech
databases which are intended for various applications in speech
technology, mostly automatic speech recognition. Furthermore, we manage
speech databases and advise others in how to use them.

One of our core activities at present is the validation of speech
databases. We check these to evaluate if they meet their specifications,
within certain tolerance margins. These specifications pertain to (amongst
others):

- Documentation

- Completeness of design and recordings

- Acoustical quality

- Transcription quality (orthographic/phonetic)

More information about the validation of databases can be found here. This
work is recognized internationally, and as consequence we have been asked
to participate as a validation centre in various European projects. For
this purpose we need to expand our team as soon as possible. We are
looking for somebody who possesses the following:

a completed university grade
knowledge of automatic speech recognition and speech processing
experience with UNIX and WINDOWS operating systems
knowledge of and experience with a relevant programming language (Perl,
C)
ability to work in a team
fluent command of Dutch and English, oral and written
good contactual qualities
a good sense of exploration and accuracy
The mid-term goal is that the new employee can manage validation projects.
