PhD Studentship in Speech Technology
Applications are invited for a 3 year PhD studentship at the Department
of Computer Science, University College Dublin, in a research
initiative in the area of multilingual speech and language technology
funded by Science Foundation Ireland. Ubiquitous language technology
concerns the development of language technologies for different
purposes on different platforms so that they can be made available to
everybody at all times rather than to a select group for specific
purposes. MUSTER Multilingual Ubiquitous Speech Technology: Enhanced
and Rethought combines a rethinking of current approaches to speech and
language technologies with an enhancement based on information of
varying levels of granularity paving the way for the development of
robust multilingual applications which are easily scalable. The MUSTER
team is made up of researchers from computational linguistics, speech
technology, experimental phonetics and computer science. The defined
area of research for this PhD studentship is acoustic signal processing
with particular emphasis on multilinear feature extraction for
multilingual applications. The successful candidate will be expected to
be familiar with statistical approaches to speech recognition and be
interested in developing feature extraction models using acoustic
phonetic information. The studentship covers a monthly stipend and
payment of fees. The successful candidate will work as part of the
MUSTER team. (General requirements for postgraduate students at UCD are
listed under http://www.ucd.ie/pgstudy/).
Further information on the MUSTER project, together with publications,
can be found at the project web page:
