Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position in the Department
of
Linguistics at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, in
conjunction with the NSF-funded project ?Information structure and syntax in
selected Amazonian languages, directed by Robert D. Van Valin, Jr. (University
at Buffalo) and Daniel L. Everett (University of Manchester). The project will
document and analyze how syntax and information structure interact and how
prosody serves to signal information structure in four highly endangered
Amazonian languages. The person selected should have (1) in-depth experience
studying one or more non-Indo-European languages and (2) expertise in theories
of information structure and/or typologically-oriented approaches to syntax.
This position does not involve doing fieldwork, and the person hired will be
expected to spend time in both Manchester and Buffalo. It will begin June 1,
2005, and the project terminates February 28, 2007. For more information,
