UiL OTS is looking for ambitious and enthusiastic candidates for
3 PhD positions
(vacancy No. 68405)
Suitable applicants are expected to contribute to research into the
mental systems that underlie language, speech and their use. These
positions are open per October 1, 2004.
Candidates are invited to apply in either of two ways: by submitting
an original research proposal that fits into the overall UiL OTS
programme, or a proposal based on one of the project summaries in the
list of summaries (to be accessed through our website at
http://www-uilots.let.uu.nl/ma-phdprog/phdprog.htm#list ). Research
proposals should contain an overview of recent literature on which the
proposed research is based, an articulate research question and a
proposed method for answering it.
The graduate position offers a two-year track towards a Ph.D. thesis,
to be extended to a maximum of 4 years after positive evaluation. As
part of their training, students attend graduate courses organised by
LOT and/or OzsL.
We are looking for ambitious candidates who show enthusiasm for
scientific research and an evident interest in one or more of the
areas of the UiL OTS programme. Eligible candidates must possess a
pre-doctoral academic degree (MA) in Linguistics, phonetics,
psycholinguistics, or some other MA degree providing enough background
in linguistics. Candidates expecting to graduate before September 2004
can also apply.
We offer an appointment for two years as a research assistant (to be
extended to a maximum of four years after positive assessment), within
a stimulating and innovative environment with many international
contacts (guest researchers, international co-operation programmes)
with a Ph.D. programme that offers the opportunity of advanced
education in a broad area of linguistics, state-of-the-art
experimental and computer facilities, and excellent opportunities for
attending conferences. The salary will be in the range of EUR1702
(before taxes, full-time). All hirings will conform to the CAO (union
approved terms of employment) for Dutch universities.
