PhD position Dutch LVCSR speech recognition

start: Q2- 2004

The University of Twente, departement of Computer Science, invites
applications for a full time PhD studentship. The research will be
carried out at the Human Media Interaction (HMI) group, formerly also
know as Parlevink.

The research is supposed to contribute to the improvement of the
performance of a large vocabulary speech recognition system for
Dutch. The envisaged application domain is the disclosure of
multimedia archives. An important part of the work will focus on the
flexible adaptation to collection features such as the occurrence of
spontaneous conversational speech and non-native Dutch and to
requirements inherent to the application of dynamic language modeling
such as automatic adaptation and (semi-)automatic evaluation.

The work will be linked to several on-going projects on multimedia
retrieval and the candidate will work closely with HMI project
staff. The candidate should have an interest in pursuing both
fundamental and system driven research, and in applying the results in
real-life experiments.
