Statistical Language Modelling and Text-to-Speech Synthesis R&D Positions

Toshiba Research Europe Ltd, Cambridge Research Lab (CRL) are looking for
people who would like to do research on real speech problems and see their
work incorporated into products worldwide. You will be a team player who
will join a small multinational group of dynamic individuals, based in the
centre of a beautiful university town. We are a relatively new team who work
on developing core technology and European/American language components for
embedded speech systems.
CRL currently has two speech posts open:
1. Statistical Language Modelling for ASR - you will work on design and
implementation of compact SLMs.
2. European/American Text-to-Speech Synthesis - you will work on design and
implementation of prosodic components. Knowledge of the synthesis process
also very useful.
For both jobs, experience with algorithm design on state-of-the-art speech
systems and knowledge of more than one major European language is preferred.
Candidates should have a PhD in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or
a related discipline in the area of ASR or TTS (or equivalent industrial
experience). 1-3 years post-doctoral experience preferred. Strong software
skills using C and/or C++, Linux/Unix, and Perl and/or Python are required.
An attractive salary and benefit package will be offered. TREL carries out
work in collaboration with Toshiba's R&D Center in Japan and the University
of Cambridge.
