Opening for a PhD student in the Natural Language Processing Group at
EML Research in Heidelberg, Germany

A position for a PhD student (equivalent BAT IIa/2) will become
available in the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Group at EML
Research starting in November 2004.

EML Research gGmbH is a private non-profit research laboratory
dedicated to basic and applied research in IT with a focus on
bioinformatics and natural language processing. The NLP group is an
interdisciplinary research group that works on applications in the
area of discourse and dialogue. Our research interests include
anaphora resolution, lexical semantics, text generation, information
retrieval and automatic summarization (see
http://www.eml-research.de/nlp).

The position will be within the DFG-funded project DIANA-SUMM which
starts in November 2004. The emphasis of the work will be research in
the field of summarization of spoken dialogue including the
integration of preprocessing components, the implementation of a
summarization system and its evaluation.

Cqandidates should have a strong background in computational
linguistics and possess a masters or diploma degree in either
computational linguistics, computer science or linguistics. Good
programming and analytical skills are also required. The appointment
will be for two years (an extension for a third year is possible
depending on funding).
