The Department of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of
Washington seeks to appoint a full-time lecturer of Japanese. The
initial appointment, starting September 16, 2005, is for up to three
years, with the possibility of renewal. Applicants must have native
or near-native fluency in Japanese and an excellent command of
English. Preference is given to applicants with at least the M.A.
degree in Japanese, Linguistics, Foreign Language Teaching, or
another relevant area. Applicants should have university-level
experience teaching Japanese using proficiency-based methodology,
materials development experience, and supervisory or teacher-training
experience. Applicants should be able to teach Japanese at any level;
upper level experience is desired. Opportunities to teach summer
session are usually available. Priority will be given to complete
applications received before January 15, 2005. Finalists will be asked to
submit a teaching video.
