The notes below summarise the principal criteria which will apply to the award of these Scholarships.
1. Academic Excellence
Generally, a first class or at least a 2:1 honours undergraduate record to date with reasonable expectation of a first class or at least a 2:1 honours degree in the current academic year. Graduates with similar high honours degrees or with equivalent professional or academic qualifications, or who are completing a master's degree and wish to continue their studies to Ph.D. or equivalent level, are also eligible to apply.
However, the door is not closed to those who exhibit outstanding academic excellence and leadership qualities in other ways. Preference will be given to the following disciplines:
'4Business Studies
'4Law
'4Marketing
'4Media Studies
'4Technology
'4Arts
There should be reasonable expectation that the applicant would be accepted into the post-graduate programme of a reputable academic institution.
2. Academic Plan
A fully researched and investigated plan for further study:
The successful scholar will have considered their options for future study and selected one, or possibly a small number of options, which she or he considers appropriate to their future personal development. It is not required that applicants for these scholarships will have applied and been accepted for a particular study programme at the time of application but it will help that they have researched it as much as possible and have been in contact with the post-graduate admissions office of the proposed academic institution. In general, these scholarships are intended for those who are embarking or are hoping to embark on a new academic initiative.
3. Leadership
Outstanding leadership in any field:
Applicants for these scholarships are likely to have demonstrated personal leadership qualities and future potential in their social, professional, academic, political, sporting or other activities.
* Shown that they have achieved against demanding goals and targets and demonstrated that they can deliver to high standards in their chosen area of interest.
* Explored and taken advantage of opportunities to broaden their horizons, either within or outside their academic discipline
* Shown, through their achievements, the ability to work constructively with others
* Shown that they are willing to put themselves in new, different or challenging situations and have used their initiative to become involved in a range of different activities
4. Personal Mission
Career strategy incorporating study plan:
Applicants should clearly demonstrate a plan for personal and career development which incorporates the proposed study / research plan. They will be people who see their future career in Ireland and have a vision of their contribution to the future development of some sector of Irish life.
* Demonstrated commitment and achieved results in a particular area of work, even if this was not their initial chosen career path
* Shown that they can build towards fulfilling their career ambitions
* Taken opportunities to get involved in activities outside of their academic area of interest and 'cmade a difference'd through those activities
