The research project is entitled:
Tactile guidance for the tongue in articulation therapy using a palatal appliance
This research project is a co-operation with the Faculty of Dentistry at the
University of Toronto. It will focus on the use of a novel palatal appliance in
the articulation therapy of patients with craniofacial syndromes, and patients
with head and neck cancer. An important aspect of this research project is the
use of two- and three-dimensional ultrasound for imaging of the tongue and the
use of electropalatography for the recording of linguo-palatal contacts.
For this position, the Department of Speech-Language Pathology guarantees a
stipend of CAD 21,000.00 per year (including tuition fees) for the first two
years. It is expected that the successful candidate will actively participate in
future funding applications related to this project.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and

January 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter. Interested individuals are

A qualified candidate should hold a Master's degree or a comparable degree that
qualifies him or her to do graduate research according to the guidelines of the
School of Graduate Studies of the University of Toronto
(http://www.sgs.utoronto.ca).
Preferably, the qualifying degree has been obtained in a discipline such as
Speech-Language Pathology, Linguistics, Phonetics/ Speech Sciences or
Psychology. The CASLPO licensure to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist in
Ontario would be advantageous.
The candidate should have an interest and preferably demonstrated experience in
conducting clinical or fieldwork research. He or she should be able to finish
the research project including the thesis defence within a period of maximally
five years.
